And now, the moment you’ve [and I’ve] all been waiting for!!! My move to Clemson!!!
When most people decide to move, they invest in storage bins, boxes, or other items that can fit a large amount of their stuff in them. That’s not the case with my recent moving trip. Since I drive a small, 2 door car, large boxes and bins aren’t practical [and frankly, won’t fit into my car]. As a result, baskets, “market bags”, duffle bags, and a big suitcase was the way I chose to go. In pure, 3D Tetris fashion, I stuffed my car to the brim [see below…and my mom’s SUV too] and started out on the long drive to South Carolina from Florida.
Utilizing caravan style driving, my mom, boyfriend and I all drove up to Clemson following one another. The nearly 7 hour drive wasn’t as bad as we were all expecting as we took the back roads [note: do not take back roads by yourself-there’s no cell reception on some of them!!!] When we got to Clemson, we were greeted with a rainbow in a beautiful sky, which only proved to me that this was definitely the right decision, and also gave my mom some ease. The chance that there would be a rainbow over campus as we were driving made her first impression of Clemson one to remember!
When we got to the hotel on Friday [my move in wasn’t until Saturday morning] we checked in, then hopped back on the road to go get dinner. In true Clemson tradition, I brought my mom and Tim to Esso. Esso is a restaurant filled with Clemson sports memorabilia, great food, and true Southern sweet tea [enough to give you a cavity]. They’re known for their “Meat & 3” meal, which has a meat and three sides all for $8! Needless to say, it’s a great deal, not to mention delicious!
We drove my mom around campus so that she could see where I would be taking class, and then made our way back to the hotel. Tim and I went and got ice cream before heading back to be ready to wake up at the crack of dawn.
Saturday morning, we got to my apartment complex bright and early at 8:30 [move-in started at 9, and we avoided the line]. I got my keys, and we started moving things in. Having 3 people to help move in was great, Tim and I ran to and from the cars bringing stuff up the stairs, while my mom stayed in the apartment and helped unpack everything! Tim and I finished unloading, then went and got lunch together before he had to leave to go back to Florida. When we returned to the apartment, we had to say our good-byes as he had to go back to Florida, and I had a chapter recruitment meeting with my new sisters. It was one of the hardest goodbyes I’ve ever had to say, even though I knew I would see him again, starting a long distance relationship is not an easy task after being within 10 minutes of each other for nearly 2 years.
My mom and I then got delicious pasta for dinner in downtown Clemson, and we went to Walmart to pick up a few things I forgot. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Walmart that packed in my life, I wasn’t able to get more than half of the stuff on our list because it was so packed and sold out!
Coincidentally, my roommate and I [we did not know each other before being assigned as roommates] had the same Lilly bedspread! We decided to get a Lilly curtain for the bathroom that was similar, but did not match exactly, so we could change it up a bit! I love how our apartment is turning out! We still have some decorating left to do, but overall, we are all moved in!
Our first day of classes started today, and it is great having time to get to adjust to classes and living off campus for the first time. I am blessed to have met so many wonderful people already, and can’t wait to see who else I will meet! Recruitment starts this weekend, so I hope to post something about that soon [tips, tricks, and what to expect maybe!]
Until next time!
