screen-shot-2016-12-05-at-8-29-19-pmIn the midst of midterm exams, work, spring break anticipation, and so much more, one can’t help but get overwhelmed, stressed, discouraged, and antsy. This is precisely what I have been going through the past few weeks; throw in some drama and grey weather, it is definitely easy to find yourself in a slump. One way that I keep myself going throughout the day is through words. More specifically, quotes and lyrics that have significant meaning, or even quotes that are just enough to keep me moving along and motivated.

One of the main things that inspired the entire inspiration for this post is Tim McGraw’s new song, “Humble and Kind.” If you haven’t heard this song yet, go look it up before you read the rest of this. Everything about the song is perfect, from the lyrics to the melody [and hellooooo….Tim McGraw is a beautiful man]. To add to the incredible song, the music video is one of the best music videos that I’ve ever seen. Anyways, as the title eludes, a main part of the lyrics that repeats throughout is “Always stay humble and kind.” If you really listen to the lyrics, the entire song gives you good general rules to live by, such as “Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie” and so much more. [Seriously, go listen to it if you haven’t already.] I think the message to stay humble and kind is so powerful. It’s a simple message, but it is just so moving and inspirational that I can’t help but fall in love with the message and the impact that these powerful words have had on my life the past few weeks.

After listening to the song, it made me think of the quote from Disney’s live-action Cinderella movie that came out last summer; “Have courage and be kind.” The entirety of the quote is actually “Have courage and be kind. Where there is kindness there is goodness, and where there is goodness there is magic.” Of course these two quotes are very different, but they share a very similar message that seems obvious, but is very moving. I have loved Cinderella since I was very young, and the live action movie was so much better than I ever could have imagined. Not to mention there are so many quotes that can be pulled from the movie that are very powerful. Another quote from this movie that I personally love is “This is perhaps the greatest risk any of us would take: to be seen as we truly are.” This just reminds us to stay true to who we really are, even if it is difficult due to societal pressures and stigmas.

The final motivational quote that I have to share with you is from an unknown author. I actually saw the quote on Buzzfeed’s snapchat, and fell in love with it because it encompasses not only a quote that can keep you moving forward, but also a bit of my personality of being a tropical-loving beach girl. The quote reads “Be a pineapple. Stand take, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside.” Pineapples are one of my absolute favorite fruits, and this quote blends beautifully with the other two. I currently have this set as my phone home screen background. I love the message that his quote has, and the fact that it refers to pineapples makes me overly happy.

These are only four of the quotes that I have been looking to in the past few stressful weeks. There have been many others that I have seen, but these are my favorites. If you were to combine them all into one message, I would say it would be something like “have courage, stay humble, be kind and sweet, but be yourself while keeping your head up, even when times get difficult.” I think that words can be very very powerful, and even more moving than people sometimes realize. I love quotes like these, and they have definitely helped me through a difficult time, both personally and academically.

One last little quote that I love and that pertains to my life is one from Walt Disney himself. It is “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” I love this quote, and actually had a rendition of it engraved in my class ring for Clemson [when I get it] that says “Dreams do come true.” I never in my life thought that I would make it to Clemson since I didn’t apply senior year of high school, but I made it and will graduate with a Clemson degree. I love this quote because it is indirectly motivational and reminds me that with hard work and perseverance, anything you set your mind to can come true.

If you weren’t looking for this serious of a post, [not sorry about it but] there will be a more light-hearted post soon with some more travel! Also- I have included a picture of me in front of the ACTUAL Cinderella carriage from the 2015 movie, holding a replica of the glass slipper that was in the movie [legitimately a dream come true for me]!!! Keep your heads up if you’re going through a tough time, it always gets better!

Until next time!
