Anyone that knows me, even a little bit better than acquaintances, will know that animals are my life. I love everything about them, am in studies aspiring to become a veterinarian, and jump at any chance to spend time with a furry friend. With that being said, never did I imagine taking on the responsibility of a pet until after my college years with the exception of a fish. Earlier in the semester, my whole life has taken a change, and I couldn’t be any happier.
A friend of mine approached me one day, asking if I would want a cat that he could no longer keep. I contemplated the idea for a few weeks, not knowing if the offer would actually stand or if I would even have the means to care for another life like that at this point in time. Needless to say, I accepted the offer with open arms and reassured myself that I would make this cat the happiest kitty on the planet.
Meet Lilly! I did not name her, but the name is absolutely perfect for both of our personalities. She is such a joy in my life and I don’t know how I’ve gone my whole life without her so far. She’s the cuddliest cat I’ve ever known, and such a sweetheart. She’s gone through some ups and downs already in regards to getting acclimated to new surroundings, a new vets office, diet changes, and a new family. She loves belly rubs [weird for a cat, I know], playing with sponges, hair-ties, her collar, and her cat-nip banana, and is the only cat I’ve ever met that will actually play fetch. She is a playful, loving, attention-demanding little 8 pound cat and I couldn’t imagine having any other companion to cuddle with at night [and while binge watching Netflix]. By far, her favorite thing is probably sitting on my windowsill looking at the tree out my window. My soft, little ball of fluff makes not only me, but everyone around her happy.
I call her a multitude of nick names, from Lilly Kitty, Cat, Mama, LoveBug, and more. She always seems happy to see me, and is quick to jump in my lap or follow me around the apartment. Despite having to clean her litter box, vacuum my room multiple times a week, have her wake me up long before the sun rises, and just other things involved with owning a cat, Lilly has enriched my life and has made dealing with stress and anxiety so much easier; and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Lilly came to me at exactly at the right time, and I firmly believe that God put her in my life for a reason. I may not know that exact reason right now, but she has done everything to make my life just a little better every day. Even in the short few months that I’ve had her, she has been there when I was sick, happy, sunburned, laughing, studying, heartbroken, praying, and so, so much more. She’s made me laugh and she’s comforted me, she’s destroyed a few toys, and spent hours laying in my lap. Every time I come home, I know that she will be there, ready to jump on the bed to get some love and take all my attention.
I know not everyone appreciates animals or cats the way that I do, but Lilly is my little blessing from Heaven, and I truly believe that she is everything that I need in my life right now. She is the steadiness and continuity that I need in life right now, and I feel beyond blessed to have her as my own little ball of loving fur.
Here’s two short videos demonstrating how much fun she is to have around.
I hope y’all have lots of love and soft kitty paws!
