The Best Beaches in Antigua

Antigua, humbly known as the “Land of Sea and Sun” is also known for having 365 beaches around its coastline. With one for every day of the year, how do you pick the best one to visit in just a short vacation? While I can’t say I’ve visited all of them, I have visited a few, and can make some recommendations. Here are 6 of the best beaches in Antigua!

Antigua's Best Beaches

Pigeon Point Beach

Pigeon Point Beach is a small beach just off of Falmouth Harbor. A popular spot for Yachties and cruisers alike, this small stretch of beach is a great spot to watch the sunset with the boats bobbing in the foreground. A short walk from the marina is possible, but most people access this beach by dinghy.

There are perfect little trees to hang a hammock, or just lie under for a sundowner. This little stretch of beach is also popular for snorkeling, so bring your dive flag and hop in!

Galleon Beach

Located just inside the entrance to Freeman’s Bay, Galleon Beach is a calm, beautiful beach to visit within the Nelson’s Dockyard National Park. A great spot for snorkeling, this is a spot that is much calmer and more easily accessed than the Pillars of Hercules. Watch the anchored boats in the harbor, or catch a glimpse of the beautiful sea life below. Keep your eyes out for sea turtles, as they are known to frequent the area! Pack a picnic, or book a room at the resort that lines the inland side of the beach.

Jolly Beach

Jolly Beach is nestled next to Jolly Harbor on the West side of Antigua and is a mile long stretch of white sandy beach. Jolly Beach is a great option if you want to be close to the shopping and restaurants in the area. A stunning little beach, offering views of the harbor, soft white sand, and is a pretty great sunset spot as well! If you’re looking for the picturesque palm-lined beach and a nice place to relax, then Jolly Beach is a great choice!

Jabberwock Beach

Prior to Antigua, I had never really seen anyone kiteboarding. If you were like me and hadn’t experienced it, this beach is an awesome spot to hangout on, but this beach is definitely one of the beaches you don’t want to miss on Antigua. Jabberwock Beach is filled with kites of all colors, and it makes for an incredible skyline. I don’t know a whole lot about kiteboarding personally, but I got to see everything from setting the kites up, all sorts of tricks, to breaking it all down and walking away from the beach leaving only footprints. I did not try it, but I enjoyed the day on the beach watching the kiters [is that the right terminology??] and soaking up the sun!

Don’t forget your camera if you’re heading to Jabberwock, you can get some really unique photos of the surfers while you’re relaxing from the shoreline!

Morris Bay Beach

Once you get your pineapple from Cades Bay Agricultural Station, bring your newfound fruit to Morris Bay to enjoy the sweet snack on the beach. This beach is on the south side of the island, just a few minutes from the Agricultural station. A coconut palm lined path takes you towards the beach, which was pretty quiet when I visited. There is a resort at one end of the beach, but even so, I didn’t feel like the beach was crowded at all.

And if you missed your stop for a pineapple, there may be a little fruit stand that you can pick one up on right near the entrance to the beach! Take your fresh pineapple and a coconut, and you’ve got yourself a yummy “pina colada” for a snack! The sand is beautiful here, you can take a dip in crystal clear water, or meet the local grazing animals, like goats or cows!

Half Moon Bay

IMG_3533

Half Moon Bay gets its name from the shape of the shoreline, and was one of my favorite beaches that I visited on the island. It is a gorgeous beach with rocks, coral, sand, and some really cool cliffs to hike on make it the perfect spot for everyone. While not nearly as “thrilling” as kite surfing, climbing all over the rocks and walking down the short cliff while being splashed with the roaring waves may not be everyone’s cup of tea. A little heads up if you do look to go on the little walk; the cliffs are made of clay, and can be a bit slippery, best to bring a friend to hold onto!

If you’re not looking for the adventurous hike, but still want the best day on the beach in Antigua, don’t fret, the beach is calm and beautiful and the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the warm Caribbean sun.

Channeling my inner ✨luxury✨ travel blogger to Channeling my inner ✨luxury✨ travel blogger to share one of the prettiest hotels I’ve ever stayed in!It’s kind of out of my comfort zone to spend on a nice stay. Usually when I travel, it’s for the experiences more than the location, but when my best friend gets married at her favorite resort, it’s an occasion to splurge! The @opalgrandresort has the best tropical beach vibes a gal can ask for. From beautiful rooms to a stunning lobby, and none of that tacky “beach” decor that some places have, I was thoroughly impressed. Not only was the resort itself stunning, but the beach across the street and uninterrupted ocean views made the resort even more special. The customer service and amenities were amazing, and everyone was so friendly! It’s a place I definitely want to return to, next time for a longer stay! 🌴 #teanseatravelPS I felt like I was channeling my inner @jesslitras taking this shot in the lobby, it was the only way I wasn’t going to succumb to the constant giggles 😂

I WAS THE GIRL PULLING HUNDREDS OF STRAWS OUT OF T I WAS THE GIRL PULLING HUNDREDS OF STRAWS OUT OF THE SAND DURING SPRING BREAK 🧉It’s true, in 2017, my senior year of college, I took a cruise to the Bahamas with my best friend, and after a whole day of coconut drinks on the beach, we were heading to grab a taxi back to the ship. The whole day I had been picking up straws that I saw left in the sand from other tourists, but as we were leaving I had hundreds stuffing all the pockets of my backpack. So many people asked why I had so many straws poking out of every corner of my backpack and I was shocked and thinking “why doesn’t everyone?”I’ve always felt a desire to protect our oceans, but never really knew how to make a bigger impact. I grew up around the ocean and am blessed to have worked with some incredible animals that call the sea home, and now call the ocean my home as well. Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of being sustainable every day, and what a big impact we have on our planet with our small changes. In 2019, I moved aboard a sailboat with my partner Steve who has a fiery passion to protect our oceans and bring more to the sailing dream. Together we set out to bring purpose and change to what we were doing while traveling and created Recycled Sailing. In 2020, we collected hundreds of pounds of trash off the beaches in the Bahamas, and kept brainstorming how to make a bigger impact. In 2021, we started hosting monthly beach cleanups here in Florida, and have grown a community of ocean loving sustainably focused friends, both near and far.I am so proud of all that we have accomplished in this time, and can’t wait to see what kind of impact we make together in the future! ♻️⛵️🌊 #teanseatravel #recycledsailing

T-6 weeks till we’re sailing the world!!! Can yo T-6 weeks till we’re sailing the world!!! Can you guess where we’re headed first? ⛵️Home. Something I never thought I would be apprehensive about leaving, but the countdown is on!In roughly 6 weeks I’ll be leaving my hometown again, this time with no return ticket. I’m excited, nervous, stressed about all the things I still have to do, and sad to be leaving a huge transitional part of my life behind.I’ll miss this little seaside town, but I know I’ll be back to visit. Till then I’ll be savoring every sunset, every moment, and every experience to be had here! ❤️⛵️ #teanseatravel

DO YOU WANT TO SNORKEL A SUNKEN PLANE IN THE BAHAM DO YOU WANT TO SNORKEL A SUNKEN PLANE IN THE BAHAMAS?! ✈️Pablo Escobar was a famous drug runner back in the 80s, who would often use the Bahamas as a stopping point before coming into the US. On Norman’s Cay, you can find one of his planes in its permanent resting place underwater, that is now an awesome snorkel spot! It’s located in relatively shallow water and is covered in corals and fish that have begun to make this plane somewhat of an artificial reef. You can snorkel through the open cabin and peek through one of the windows, or venture around the wings to see the props and fish that like the shadows.Would you snorkel this sunken plane in the Bahamas?! 🇧🇸 #teanseatravel
