Adventurous Things to do in St. Augustine, Florida

If you’re planning a trip to St. Augustine and are looking for adventurous things to do, you’re in luck! While there are tons of activities in St. Augustine, many of them are more family oriented or relaxed than others. With these activities, you can experience the many adventurous things to do in St. Augustine!

Try Surf Lessons

One of St. Augustine’s classic adventure activities is surfing in the Atlantic Ocean! If you’ve never experienced surfing before, or didn’t travel with your own board to St. Augustine, try taking some surf lessons from one of the local surf shops!

St. Augustine’s surf can be anything from longboard friendly to the bigger, quickly breaking waves that you watch the more experienced surfers carve left and right on. Regardless of the conditions, feeling the ocean beneath your board as you ride the waves is amazing! The adrenaline you may feel makes surfing one of the most exciting adventures in St. Augustine, especially on the beach!

For a St. Augustine surf adventure, try lessons with Surf Station, Mangrove Surf Shop, or WSMS Surf Stop!

Take a Vintage Biplane Tour

Hop aboard a 1930s vintage biplane that has been beautifully restored for one of the coolest adventures you can take in St. Augustine! From sunset flights with a champagne toast to an aerobatics tour for the adrenaline junkies, Vintage Biplane Rides has something for every flight!

You’ll depart from the St. Augustine airport and depending on your flight that you choose, will see some of St. Augustine’s most notable landmarks. On the longer tours, you’ll even fly down by Matanzas inlet, which is stunning from the air! The open air cockpit seats two, but note that it is pretty small and there is a weight limit for the combined pair.

The aerobatics tour is the ultimate in adventure flying. In the open air cockpit, you’ll be equipped with a parachute and experience high intensity maneuvers like barrel rolls! If you’re feeling up to it, and even if you don’t book the aerobatics tour, the pilot may give you a little taste of some more adventurous flight maneuvers. On our morning flight, the pilot asked if we liked roller coasters and (after a yes) took off nearly vertical. During the flight, we had some pretty banked turns, but this tour was incredible and definitely one I would recommend if you’re looking for an adventurous idea in St. Augustine!

Horseback Riding on the Beach

Arguably a total bucket list experience is riding horses on the beach! Depending on who you ride with, you’ll have differing experiences, but most horseback adventures happen slightly outside of St. Augustine. I have personally ridden on the beach on Amelia Island, but have also seen tours offered closer to St. Augustine, like at Crescent beach!

Depending on the tide conditions, you’ll ride down the beach and back, and possibly even in the shallow surf too! If you’re an experienced rider, you may even get the chance to canter down the beach with some tours! Whether for a romantic St. Augustine adventure or an adrenaline filled ride, riding on the beach is an amazing way to experience the adventures in St. Augustine!

Sail on the Schooner Freedom

If you’re looking to see St. Augustine from the water, hop aboard the Schooner Freedom for one of the best ways to see town. While some of the sails are much more relaxed and romantic, some of the sails can be a super adventurous way to see St. Augustine from the water!

Freedom, a 76 foot steel tall ship, is traditionally rigged and offers 2 hour sails. From sunny daysails to romantic sunsets, and even moonlit sails with live music, Freedom definitely offers the most unique experience on the water. Watch the crew tack and jibe, and on the windier days, feel the power of the wind heel the boat over! Freedom sails year round, so if you’re looking for an adventure during Christmas time in St. Augustine, the Nights of Lights sails are some of the most popular offered!

While sailing can be both adventurous or relaxing, sailing on a traditionally rigged vessel is definitely on the more adventurous side, and sailing aboard Schooner Freedom is one of the best adventures you’ll have on the water in St. Augustine!

Parasailing Over St. Augustine Beach

If sailing isn’t the on-the-water adventure you’re looking for, join St. Augustine Parasail on the “Inflation Sensation” as you venture out the St. Augustine inlet towards the beaches while the crew preps your parasail. Opt for varying lengths on tethers to send you up in the sky for an overwater adventure! Choose from 500 or 1000 feet lines, and watch as the boat falls away as you float up in the sky! This St. Augustine adventure is something I’ve had on my bucket list for a while, but have yet to experience, but is definitely something to add to your St. Augustine adventure bucket list!

Try Deep Sea Fishing

Venture between 10 and 100 miles offshore in St. Augustine to try your hand at some offshore fishing! Sport fishing is a popular activity in St. Augustine for locals and visitors alike. There are many fishing charter options in St. Augustine for your deep sea adventure, but try to find one that doesn’t bring 50 people out at once. You’ll have a much more adventurous experience and have a much better chance at catching a big fish!

Once you head out the St. Augustine inlet for your fishing trip, you’ll likely troll around. While trolling, you can catch Mahi Mahi, marlin, bonita, and many other varieties of fish! Depending on the fish, you can sometimes experience quite the battle, as you try to reel in big fish. You may even get the ultimate adventure in fishing by being strapped to the fishing chair as you battle the fish in!

While I personally haven’t taken one of the fishing charters (I’ve always just gone with a family friend), my dad raved about his trip with J Hook Charters or Endless Summer Charters. If you’re looking for the ultimate fishing adventure in St. Augustine, check out these offshore charters!

Zipline over Alligators

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm, home to every alligator and crocodile species on earth, is more than just a zoo to walk around. If you’re looking for adventure in St. Augustine, try zip lining over alligators!

The “Zip the Zoo” Crocodile Crossing has a few different course options in varying lengths and difficulty. The more adventurous of the two courses is higher up, takes roughly 90 minutes, and has 17 zip lines!

Both courses have obstacles to overcome, from narrow paths, zip lines, and swinging bridges. The course is entirely self guided, so after your briefing you’ll adventure across the alligator habitats all on your own. On the longer course, you’ll even zip over the big lagoon that is filled with 10 foot long American Alligators!

Exumas Bucket List: Bahamas Travel Guide

HAPPY WORLD TURTLE DAY! These amazing animals need HAPPY WORLD TURTLE DAY! These amazing animals need YOUR help. Keep reading to learn how you can help🐢I am so honored to be able to work so closely with this incredible species, and to have seen them healthy and thriving out in the ocean too. These animals are so important for maintaining the balance of the ocean’s health, and are threatened by human activity both in and out of the water. So, what can you do to help?
🍹 Decline straws and other single use plastics like cutlery, bags, and shop for groceries produce that is packaged without plastic. (Fun fact, you don’t actually need to use a produce bag to check out at the store)
🌊 Attend beach or park cleanups. Even if you live far from the ocean, everything exists above sea level. Picking up garbage wherever you find it will help prevent it from making its way to the ocean.
🎈 NEVER release balloons into the sky. What goes up, must come down, and these guys can travel over a thousand miles before they come back to earth. That doesn’t even count the miles they can travel floating on the surface of the sea.
🐢 Sponsor a sea turtle that is in medical care. While not every sea turtle hospital or rescue offers this, supporting the animal’s care efforts helps them get back out to their home, and helps the hospital or rescue continue the work they are doing.
🚤 Practice safe boating and abide by no wake zones, protected areas, and fishing laws. If you ever hit or catch a sea turtle by accident, contact the authorities as soon as possible to get the turtle the help it needs. (In Florida, call FWC).Here’s a little recap of each photo:
- A wild green sea turtle I saw while snorkeling in the Tobago Cays, a marine protected area in the Grenadines
- Rocky, a rescued loggerhead sea turtle, deemed unreleasable by FWC that I used to take care of at his forever home
- One of our juvenile green sea turtle patients undergoing wound care at the sea turtle hospital I volunteer at
- another patient enjoying her greens at the sea turtle hospital in her rehab tank
- One of the first sea turtles I got to meet volunteering, Kiwi! She was successfully released back to her ocean home ❤️🌊*All activities conducted under FWC permits

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’d If you’ve been following me for a while, you’d know how special Grenada is and how important eco-conscious travel is to me. Combine those two and you have the PERFECT stay with True Blue Bay Resort 🌴An eco-conscious, family owned, boutique resort, @truebluebayresort has always blown me away with their sustainability practices. I can’t even list them all they’re so numerous (there’s a page on their website dedicated solely to sustainable practices), but some of my favorite sustainable practices include locally sourcing or growing their own food and ingredients for their restaurant, restoring a mangrove coastline around the resort, encouraging natural vegetation to grow, and NO single use plastic on property at all! ♻️In case you needed a look at this little resort, here’s a photo dump of some of my favorite pics from our stay ⬇️🌴 One of four pools on property, tucked under the shade of the palms. This is probably the quietest pool to escape to.
🍹 The Rum Shop! Perfect for a poolside cocktail on the swinging bar stools. If Mike is your bartender, he will make up with a cocktail just for you, but be sure to try the nutmeg colada, it’s my favorite drink on the island
🇬🇩The famous Grenada sign next to the pool is perfect for those cute photos. This pool also has a nice shaded cover in case you’re not trying to burn on the first day
🎨 The cutest eco-friendly reminder paintings. I wish I could take this whole wall home with me and hang them everywhere.
♾️ The infinity pool. Need I say more?! This is the pool we spent most of our time at and has a nice sloped beach entrance
🦎 Keep your eyes peeled in the trees for the iguanas that roam the property, they can be hard to spot hiding in the trees
🌺 Tropical flowers are all over the property and the resort is so colorful and happy to walk around!
🍍 Visit the on property organic garden to see the foods they grow for the restaurant
